Quincy Symphony Orchestra--Untold Stories

Quincy native and acclaimed soprano Melissa Citro returns home to headline the Quincy Symphony Orchestra's season-opening concert with Samuel Barber's beloved Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Barber's lyrical setting of James Agee's evocative prose beautifully captures the warmth, innocence, and quiet wonder of a childhood summer evening.

Led by Conductor Bruce Briney, the orchestra also performs Dmitri Shostakovich's exhilarating Festive Overture, selected by popular vote from our patrons.

The concert concludes with Edward Elgar's celebrated Enigma Variations, one of the orchestral repertoire's most beloved masterworks. Through a series of richly imagined musical portraits, Elgar pays tribute to the friends who shaped his life, inviting listeners to discover the personalities, humor, tenderness, and triumph hidden within each variation.

Together, these three remarkable works create a memorable opening to the season—one that welcomes audiences into a world of imagination, heartfelt storytelling, and the power of live music.

Single tickets are $20 and may be purchased throughout the season at the door, in advance at Quincy Hy-Vee stores and Sturhahn Jewelers, or online at http://qsoa.org. Thanks to support from the Tracy Family Foundation, children 18 and under are admitted free to all concerts and are encouraged to attend.
